Low background alpha and beta double scintillation
The scintillator is sprayed on the 5 to 6 mm plexiglass plate by alpha scintillating material and beta scintillating material, and processed by special technology. The alpha scintillation substance Zns (Ag) is sprayed on the outer layer and the beta scintillation substance is in the inner layer. The principle of measurement is that, due to the small range of alpha particles, when alpha particles enter the alpha scintillator, the whole energy is lost on the Zns (Ag) material, causing scintillation and producing alpha signal. The beta particles are strong enough to penetrate the ZnS (Ag) material into beta scintillator, resulting in beta signals. Due to the semitransparent beta scintillation material, the flash of alpha particles enters the photomultiplier tube through the beta scintillation material. The beta particles enter the beta scintillation material through the Zns (Ag) material and produce beta flashes and enter the beta signal to the photomultiplier tube.
Therefore, the scintillator can be used as a necessary detector for low background alpha and beta measurements.
